How can parents encourage their children to move with confidence if they have gait clumsiness?
Asked 3 years ago
As a parent of a clumsy child, I'm constantly worried about their safety while walking or running. I want my child to feel confident and secure, but I'm not sure how to help them. What are some ways parents can reassure and encourage children with gait clumsiness to walk and run?

Gait clumsiness is a very normal part of childhood development, while movement and coordination patterns are being learnt. It is very important to encourage your child with positive verbal communication, to reward their efforts and to increase their confidence to keep trying. Regular practice on different surfaces such as carpets, grass or stones is great for development. You can also make simple indoor obstacle courses at home with items such as pillows for your child to navigate and become more confident on their feet. Making sure that your child has correct fitting footwear, which is well-fastened, will also help their stability.
