First Walkers NDIS Support
First Walkers can prepare an invoice for NDIS participants. We are not a registered NDIS provider. Whether the shoes can be paid from your plan depends on your plan, and on how that part of the plan is managed. We do not choose which part of your plan pays for the shoes.
Self-managed
If that part of your plan is self-managed, you can buy from a registered or unregistered provider. The NDIS describes two ways to pay:
- The NDIS pays you, and you pay us.
- You pay us, then claim it back.
You can pay at checkout and use the tax invoice in your order email, or download an NDIS invoice from the cart and claim with that. Check that the purchase fits your plan before you pay, and keep the invoice.
Read the NDIS guide to self-managed funding.
Plan-managed
If that part of your plan is plan-managed, you can usually choose a registered or unregistered provider. Your plan manager pays the invoice and makes the claim. Ask them whether this invoice can be paid from your plan before you count on it.
- Choose the shoes and the size.
- Download an invoice from the cart, or email us and we will send one.
- Give the invoice to your plan manager.
- We dispatch within 1–2 business days of receiving their payment. The invoice on its own does not ship the order.
Ask your plan manager:
- Can this footwear invoice be paid from my plan?
- Do you pay First Walkers, or do I pay and then claim?
- What has to be on the invoice?
- How long do you take to pay?
Read the NDIS guide to plan-managed funding.
NDIA-managed
If that part of your plan is NDIA-managed, also called agency-managed, the NDIS pays a registered provider directly. We are not a registered provider, so that funding cannot pay us. If another part of your plan is self-managed or plan-managed, ask whether that part can cover the shoes.
Read the NDIS guide to NDIA-managed funding, and how to choose a provider.
How to get an invoice
Invoices are from FW Orthopaedic Pty Ltd, ABN 20 619 368 893.
From the cart
- Add the shoes to your cart.
- On the cart page, click NDIS Invoice.
- Complete the form, then click Create & Download Invoice.
If the file does not download, check your downloads folder or try another browser. If you still cannot find it, email us the participant's name and NDIS number and we will send a copy.
By email
Email support@firstwalkers.com.au or call 1300 791 175 with:
- Participant's full name
- Phone number
- NDIS number
- Shoe model and size
- Shipping address
- Billing address, if it is different
We send the invoice once we have those details. The downloaded invoice lists the shoes that were in your cart.
Already paid on our website?
You don't need an invoice from the cart. Your order confirmation email includes a tax invoice with your order number, and it shows the order is paid.
- Self-managed: claim it back with that tax invoice.
- Plan-managed: send it to your plan manager and tell them it's already paid, so they reimburse you rather than pay us.
Please don't create a new invoice from the cart for shoes you've already paid for. That invoice asks for payment to us, which confuses plan managers and slows down your claim.
When the shoes ship
We dispatch within 1–2 business days of receiving payment from your plan manager. Creating the invoice does not start shipping.
If you pay at checkout, usual Australian delivery applies. Orders placed before 12pm AEST on a business day dispatch the same day. East coast metro areas arrive in 1–3 business days, Adelaide and Perth in 2–4, and country and remote areas in 2–5.
If your plan manager asks for a note
We do not need a letter from your podiatrist or physiotherapist to issue an invoice. If your plan manager asks for one, they can write a short note in their own words. A useful note names the participant, the NDIS number, and that supportive shoes are part of the child's supports, then adds their name, profession, contact details, and the date. They decide what they will sign. We do not advise on your child's care.
Common questions
Can I buy First Walkers shoes with my NDIS plan?
It depends on your plan. We are not a registered NDIS provider. Self-managed and plan-managed funding can usually be used with an unregistered provider. NDIA-managed funding cannot pay us. We do not choose which part of your plan pays for the shoes. You, or your plan manager, confirm whether the invoice fits your plan.
Are you a registered NDIS provider?
No. Families with self-managed or plan-managed funding can still buy from us, and we will issue an invoice. NDIA-managed funding has to be spent with a registered provider.
How do I get an invoice for my plan manager?
Add the shoes to your cart and click NDIS Invoice, then Create & Download Invoice. Or email support@firstwalkers.com.au with the participant's full name, phone number, NDIS number, shoe model and size, and the shipping and billing addresses. Invoices are from FW Orthopaedic Pty Ltd, ABN 20 619 368 893.
I've already paid online. Which invoice do I send to my plan manager?
The tax invoice in your order confirmation email. It has your order number and shows the order is paid. Don't create a new invoice from the cart – that one is a request for payment.
What should I ask my plan manager?
Ask whether this footwear invoice can be paid from your plan, whether they pay First Walkers or you pay and then claim, what has to be on the invoice, and how long they take to pay.
I am self-managed. How do I pay?
You can pay at checkout and keep the tax invoice from your order email, or download an NDIS invoice from the cart and claim with that. The NDIS can pay you first so you can pay us, or you can pay us and claim it back. Check that the purchase fits your plan before you pay.
My funding is NDIA-managed. Can you be paid?
No. NDIA-managed funding, also called agency-managed, is paid only to registered providers. We are not registered. If another part of your plan is self-managed or plan-managed, ask whether that part can cover the shoes.
When will the shoes ship?
We dispatch within 1–2 business days of receiving payment from your plan manager. Creating the invoice does not start shipping. If you pay at checkout, orders placed before 12pm AEST on a business day dispatch the same day.
What if the size is wrong?
If you are self-managed, contact us before you start a return. We can often exchange the pair directly, without sending the money back to your plan and billing again. Email support@firstwalkers.com.au or call 1300 791 175.
