How to Measure My Kid’s Feet and Choose the Right Shoe Size
Buying boys’ sandals or girls’ shoes online can be a little daunting — especially when it comes to sizing. While online shopping is easier than ever, many parents hesitate simply because they’re unsure how to choose the right fit.
The good news? Measuring your child’s feet at home is easier than you think. Just follow a few simple steps to get it right. Then use our size chart below to convert your child’s foot length to the correct AU/UK or European size. Always choose a size that’s slightly larger — never too small or excessively big.
How to Measure Toddlers’ Feet
- Get two sheets of paper, a pencil, and a ruler (in centimetres).
- Draw a straight line lengthwise across each sheet.
- Place one sheet against a wall, with the line facing outward.
- Have your toddler stand on the paper with their heel against the wall and foot flat. The centre of the heel and longest toe should line up with the drawn line.
- Mark where the longest toe ends. Repeat for the other foot.
- Measure from the edge of the paper to the toe mark — this is the foot length.
How to Measure Babies’ Feet
- Lay your baby on their back and place the paper with the line under their foot.
- Gently press the foot down, then mark both the heel and the tip of the longest toe along the line.
Measure both feet, one at a time. One foot is often slightly larger — always use the measurement of the bigger foot.
